Better Open Graph images

Today I tried sharing the roadmap of my product on X. It automatically fetched the logo from my product page but that was not optimized for sharing. So the result was not so great. How about creating OG images from product information? Logo, title, description and if possible some meta data, like followe count etc. This kind of image probably get better attention, wdys?

Hey Emre, thanks for flagging this, and for the OG image idea.

When I first read it I imagined the same thing, it could look great. But it comes with a real problem: the  metadata that makes those images attractive (follower count, product count etc.) changes over time. Regenerating the image on our side is easy, the issue is X. It fetches the card image once and caches it for a long time, so the numbers would go stale right after sharing. What's left to visualize is basically the product name and  tagline and that's information that already reads perfectly well as text, so the generated image wouldn't carry its weight.

What I'm doing instead: X was rendering the square product logo in the large card format, which cropped it badly that's why your share looked off. I'm switching product, roadmap and feedback links to the compact summary card, where the logo fits cleanly. Not as info-rich as your suggestion, but it'll look noticeably better than  before. Should be live in a few days.

This is exactly the kind of feedback I want.

if anything else looks off, I'd love to hear it.

u/emre, you asked and I delivered! It's not exactly what you had in mind, but I built a middle-ground solution.

Social media cards are now sized based on the page's image: pages with square visuals (product logos, avatars)  render a proper small card with the image neatly on the side — no more giant, badly-cropped logos. Posts with cover images and pages without any image keep showing the large card with the banner. So whatever link you share, the preview finally looks clean.

The full version of what you asked for - custom, dynamically generated card images per page - is shelved for now;  I'll revisit it down the road. But the ugly-preview problem is gone. Give it a try and let me know how it looks on your end!
